GCSE Art Classes

What Arty Monkey provides?

Arty Monkeys provides GCSE art classes for all ages and abilities. We are made up by art enthusiasts all trained as teachers.

We believe students should know the basics of art and slowly build it up in order to become the best artists that they can be. Hence, are classes are set up to build up to a big piece.

We make sure all the core skills are understood and children begin to look with an artistic view. By working from a mix of live objects and photos, starting with sketching and slowly building up into painting. We will draw, paint and craft the same objects just as the greatest artists have to fully understand the object.

Why do I need extra support?

Having an art tutor during the GCSE exam years is crucial for children due to several reasons.

Arty Monkeys provides personalized guidance and support, helping students develop their artistic skills and techniques. We can offer expert advice on composition, colour theory, and different artistic styles, enabling students to explore and expand their creative horizons.

Secondly, in our GCSE art classes we foster critical and analytical thinking. We encourage students to analyze and interpret artworks, helping them develop a deeper understanding of art history and contemporary art movements. This enhanced critical thinking enhances their ability to articulate their ideas and opinions effectively, both in written and verbal form.

Furthermore, Arty Monkeys understands the importance of building a strong portfolio, which plays a pivotal role in college admissions and future artistic endeavours. We can provide valuable insights on selecting and presenting artwork, ensuring that the portfolio showcases the student’s unique artistic voice and skills.

Lastly, we understand that creating a whole portfolio can be daunting our GCSE art classes serves as a mentor, inspiring and motivating students to pursue their artistic passions. We can offer guidance on career options in the art field, expose students to professional artists and exhibitions, and in still a sense of discipline and dedication required for success in the art world.

Understanding the National Curriculum

Arty Monkeys are an art school made up of teachers with years of experience. We understand the national curriculum and how the mark scheme works. A main mistake, children, will make when creating their portfolio is focusing on the media, they enjoy the most or spending too long on one of their pieces of work. We try and break down the national curriculum for the students so that they understand how to get the highest mark and not feel to overwhelmed with workload.

How our classes work

All students will start in Arty Monkey’s art sketching class. Guided by experienced instructors, we embark on a journey of exploration, refining skills and expanding artistic horizons. Through a combination of lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on exercises. Children will learn the fundamental principles of sketching, such as composition, perspective, and shading.

The class provides ample opportunities to experiment with various mediums, such as graphite, charcoal, and ink. Enabling the children to develop their own unique style and techniques. Collaborative activities and group critiques foster a supportive community where the students can receive valuable feedback, exchange ideas, and grow as artists.

After we have worked on sketching, we will move onto painting. Using a range of techniques, we have practised we will create a masterpiece over the course of 3-5 weeks. Making sure the children are not rushing through. Though we take them step by step we always allow for them to embark on their own small creative journeys.

In our holiday classes we focus more on the craft aspect. The sessions range from 3-5 days and build up to a final project. In previous sessions we have made faces using papier Mache. However for our older students we have looked into famous architects and designed our own detailed work.
